Lionel Richie's Daughter Flooded with Acting Offers
22 December 2003
Lionel Richie's daughter Nicole Richie has been inundated with acting
offers since her hit reality show The Simple Life made its debut in
America earlier this month. Nicole and her hotel heiress pal Paris Hilton
have become overnight sensations with their show, which follows them
living in rural Arkansas for a month. And now 22-year-old Nicole, who also
plans to launch a pop career, is scheduled to fly to New York on Friday to
audition for the Broadway show Rent. She has also just landed a guest
appearance on rapper Eve's eponymous sitcom and is in talks to star in a
Simple Life sequel. An overwhelmed Nicole says, "My life has changed so
much since the show aired. I've been in the public eye my whole life, but
this is so different. I hear people quoting me on the street! When I
presented at the Billboard (Music) Awards, I couldn't even walk through
the lobby. It was crazy."
Paris Hilton Elected Over Dubya
18 December 2003
The U.S. may have captured Saddam Hussein three days earlier, but Diane
Sawyer's interview with President George W. Bush on a special edition of
ABC's Primetime failed to capture a ratings victory Tuesday night. CBS's
Navy NCIS recorded a solid 9.3 rating and a 14 share against the
president's 8.6/12. Moreover, at 8:30 p.m., the interview slipped to third
place, beaten by both the CBS drama and by Fox's reality series The Simple
Life, which drew nearly a million more viewers than Primetime. In her
Washington Post TV column today (Thursday), Lisa De Moraes suggests that
the Democrats run Simple Life co-star Paris Hilton for president,
observing that not only was her program watched by 22 percent of 18-34
year-old viewers versus 7 percent for the president, "but Paris was also
preferred to Bush among men 25 to 54 years old, and by women in the same
age bracket. This is important because that is the demographic in which
news programs generally fare well and which is the basis for their ad
sales." Bush beat out Paris in the 50+ demo, however (but not Navy NCIS).
On Wednesday night, magazine shows put up a good fight but generally
ranked second in their time periods. The strongest performer was CBS's 60
Minutes II, which won the 8:00 hour with an 8.7/13. At 9:00, Barbara
Walters and her "10 Most Fascinating People of 2003" scored a 9.9/15,
edged out by an NBC Law & Order repeat, which drew a 10.0/15. At 10:00
p.m., an ABC Primetime special with Oprah Winfrey pulled a 10.7/17, but
was beaten by another Law & Order repeat (12.9/19). CBS's 48 Hours
Investigates ran well behind with a 5.2/9.

Paris Hilton: I'm a Changed Woman
15 December 2003
Hotel heiress Paris Hilton has revamped her life since her s** tape
scandal, changing her clothes, outlook and friends. The party-loving
blonde, 22, was forced to retreat from the spotlight for a few weeks after
a tape featuring her having s** with ex-boyfriend Rick Solomon surfaced on
the internet. And while opting to spend her time strictly among close
friends and family, Hilton admits it gave her time to rethink her life.
She says, "I've grown up a whole lot overnight. So maybe there is some
good in even the bad. The way I treat people and whether or not I trust
people - it has really changed me for the better. The people I associate
with now are good people. I've been rethinking everything, but my head is
on straight. I know what I want to accomplish in my life. Even the way
I've dressed these days has changed." Hilton made a return to the
spotlight last weekend when she appeared on hit comedy show Saturday Night
Live and starred in a raunchy sketch with comedian Jimmy Fallon. She adds,
"I wanted to show people I could deal with the situation and have them
laugh with me and not at me. I've always watched Saturday Night Live ever
since I was a little girl. So I thought it was a good place to h ave fun
with it."
Paris Hilton Resurfaces for Racy Sketch
9 December 2003
Hotel heiress Paris Hilton emerged out of hiding on Saturday night to
appear in a raunchy comedy skit. The 22-year-old blonde - who had
cancelled several TV appearances to promote her hit reality show The
Simple Life, after a video of her having s** with a ex- boyfriend Rick
Solomon spread across the internet - made a brief appearance on hit comedy
sketch show Saturday Night Live. During the Weekend Update segment, show
regular Jimmy Fallon said, "As we agreed, we won't be discussing the
scandal that's been in the papers the past couple weeks. We just wanna
find out about you, Paris Hilton." The comedian went on to ask about her
Hilton's family's hotel chain and when she mentioned there's a branch in
the French capital, Fallon asked, "So there actually is a Paris Hilton? Is
it hard to get into the Paris Hilton?" Once the audience's whoops subsided
she responded, "Actually, it's a very exclusive hotel, no matter what
you've heard." Fallon went on to ask, "Do they allow double occupancy at
the Paris Hilton? Is the Paris Hilton roomy?" Hilton quickly shot back,
"It might be for you, but most people find it very comfortable." After
getting a negative response from Hilton on requests to use the Paris
Hilton's back entrance, the segment soon ended to enthusiastic applause
from the audience.
Paris Sizzles
4 December 2003
Paris Hilton has shown that she can draw a crowd on television as handily
as she can on the Internet. On Tuesday, her new Fox show The Simple Life
at 8:30 p.m. drew a 9.3 rating and a 13 share among households and a
5.9/16 among adults 18-49 years old. Some analysts suggested that viewers
may have been attracted by the curiosity factor and that they would
quickly fade away. However, Wednesday night's results seemed to prove them
wrong, as the show drew even higher numbers -- a 10.0/15, landing in first
place in its 8:30 p.m. time slot.
Paris Hilton Ignores Lockdown and Dons Disguise
1 December 2003
Troubled hotel heiress Paris Hilton has ignored her family's order to stay
indoors for two weeks - by going out partying disguised in a long brown
wig. The socialite donned her disguise to go to a rock concert at Club
Lingerie in Los Angeles on Saturday night, as she attempts to keep a low
profile after a s** tape she made with ex-boyfriend Rick Solomon was
leaked onto the internet. Meanwhile, reports are suggesting Hilton was
aware the tape may become public as early as this summer, and took legal
advice to block it. However, according to friends quoted on the Pagesix
website, Hilton "never pulled the trigger - no one knows why".
