Clear Channel Clears Out Howard Stern
26 February 2004
In the latest backlash to Janet Jackson's breast-baring during the Super
Bowl halftime show, Clear Channel Communications, the nation's largest
radio owners, said that it will remove Howard Stern's program from the six
Clear Channel stations that carry it. The broadcaster cited its own "zero
tolerance" policy on indecency and indicated that it had decided to dump
Stern after the shock jock broadcast an interview with Rick Solomon, the
man in the Paris Hilton porn video that is being distributed over the
Internet. Stern's radio program is produced by Infinity Broadcasting, a
division of Viacom. In the past, Viacom President and COO Mel Karmazin,
Infinity's founder, has defended Stern against the FCC and religious
groups that have railed against him. (The American Family Association said
Wednesday that it will ask its members to file indecency complaints
against Infinity if it does not immediately fire Stern.) During a recent
conference call, Karmazin said, referring to the Jackson incident: "This
company won't be a poster child for indecency." Viacom's other properties
include MTV, which produced the Super Bowl halftime show, and CBS, which
broadcast it.
Hilton To Get Director Credit for s** Video?
25 February 2004
Paris Hilton has been labeled a "film director" in a lawsuit filed by
internet company Marvad Corp against her ex-beau Rick Solomon. Solomon,
the estranged husband of Beverly Hills 90210 star Shannen Doherty, has
complained that the company posted shots from his and former lover
Hilton's video online. Seattle, Washington-based Marvad filed a
federal court response to Solomon, saying the producer cannot claim the
video is solely his property. The motion says, "Ms Hilton offered
directorial comments and physically controlled and directed the camera.
Solomon's failure to identify Ms Hilton as a co-author on the application
for copyright registration renders the certificate of registration invalid
and fraudulent."
Hilton's Ex Makes a Fortune From s** Tape
19 February 2004
Paris Hilton's video tape is making her ex-boyfriend Rick Solomon
a small fortune, thanks to sales through a Czech Republic internet site.
The producer claims 50,000 people a day have paid $50 each to download the
37-minute video, in which he stars with the hotel heiress, after he
launched it on a Czech-based website run by his brother Jim last week. He
says, "I had tons of shame from this whole thing and now, I'm ... at least
making some money off of it. It's doing really well." Solomon admits he's
not worried about comeback from his ex or her family as his get-rich-quick
scheme takes off: "I own the rights and they can't stop me. I haven't
heard a word."
Paris' Party Performance
10 February 2004
American socialite Paris Hilton launched a desperate campaign to be
included on the guest list for a glitzy post-Grammy party - by plaguing a
record company boss with phone calls. The 22-year-old star of reality show
The Simple Life was so eager to be invited to Clive Davis' legendary bash,
she contacted the J Records executive relentlessly prior to Sunday's
ceremony. But Davis - who was disgusted by Hilton's behavior - refused to
bow to her requests and the blonde party girl had to gatecrash the event
with help from boyfriend Nick Carter, who was invited to the bash with his
band The Backstreet Boys. A spokesperson for Davis says, "Paris wouldn't
be on his guest list. Clive Davis' parties are legendary and his list is
for musical royalty." And revelers at the glitzy party - who included Sean
'P Diddy' Combs, Jay-z, Alicia Keys and 50 Cent - were left cold by Paris'
party etiquette. A source says, "We couldn't believe it when we saw Paris
acting as if she was top of the guest list. The day before there had been
a flurry of calls to Mr. Davis, which got progressively more desperate.
Who would think that someone of her supposed stature would have to beg for
tickets. She's obviously not as important as she thinks she is."
Janet Jackson Tops Internet Searches
9 February 2004
Janet Jackson's right breast has become the most-searched image in
internet history - after it was exposed at last Sunday's Super Bowl. The
singer's unscripted flash of flesh during the American Football final's
half- time show with Justin Timberlake has sent web surfers seeking
pictures of the incident in greater numbers over a 24-hour period than
searches for 'September 11' or Madonna's infamous on stage kiss with
Britney Spears. Jackson's web popularity rocketed to the top of the charts
on web portals owned by Terra Lycos and Yahoo moments after the shocking
moment. On Monday, Jackson received 60 times as many searches than
perennial chart topper, 'the Paris Hilton tape', and 80 times as many
as Spears. By this morning, Jackson broke records on Yahoo, accounting for
nearly 20 per cent of all terms searched on the site.
Trump To Hire Hilton for Miss USA Pageant
6 February 2004
Hotel heiress Paris Hilton has been tapped to take on her biggest role yet
- as the host of this year's Miss USA pageant. The 22-year-old blonde has
been handpicked by property mogul Donald Trump to lead his 53rd annual
contest, which will be held on April 12 in Los Angeles. Trump, who came up
with the idea while spending time with Hilton's parents Kathy and Rick at
his Mar-a-lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, says, "I've known Paris
since she was a little girl. She's a fine girl... I think she will give
the pageant its highest TV ratings."
