Hilton's TV Appearance Put On Hold for Carson Tribute
26 January 2005
Paris Hilton's plans to promote the third season of her reality show The
Simple Life were put on hold last night, as chat show bosses paid tribute
to TV legend Johnny Carson. The hotel heiress and British actor Ian
McShane were scheduled to appear on Jay Leno's Tonight Show last night,
but following the Sunday death of Carson, producers of the show recruited
Ed McMahon, Bob Newhart, Don Rickles and Drew Carey to honor the beloved
star. In between clips of Carson's 30-year run as host of the Tonight Show
- which he handed over to Leno in 1992 - the late star's old pals
remembered the Iowa native. KD Lang, who became a personal favorite of
Carson's after appearing on his show in 1987, performed "Simple" at the
end of the hour-long tribute. Also last night, Scottish comedian Craig
Ferguson abandoned his usual monologue to pay tribute to Carson, whom he
became a fan of during his first visit to America in 1976.
Hilton Faces Theft & Vandalism Charges
21 January 2005
Socialite Paris Hilton is to face charges of theft and vandalism after
allegedly stealing a copy of her One Night In Paris DVD from a Los Angeles
newsstand last month. Images from the newsagents' surveillance camera have
already appeared in US tabloids and seem to clearly show the Simple Life
star reaching out for a copy of the X-rated DVD and then putting it in her
bag. And now, according to scandal show Celebrity Justice, the Los Angeles
County Sheriff's Department is getting involved. Swing News newsstand
employee Jerry Castro, who was on duty when Hilton paid him a visit,
claims the socialite was in great spirits until she saw her DVD was on
sale. Castro says, "As soon as she saw that we were selling her videos and
we had her on display she was livid. She was using profanity to the
ultimate. She threw her eighty cents change at me and took the video and
said, 'I'm taking this and I'm not buying it.'" The surveillance video
seems to back up Castro's claims that Paris not only took the DVD but also
tried to rip a poster advertising it. The LA County Sheriff's Department
now plans to refer the case to the Beverly Hills district attorney's
office, recommending the hotel heiress be charged with petty theft and
vandalism.
Sheridan Tops Mr. Blackwell's Worst-Dressed List
12 January 2005
Desperate Housewives star Nicolette Sheridan's fashion sense has earned
her top place on style critic Mr Blackwell's 45th annual list of
worst-dressed celebrities. The Desperate Housewives star, noted for her
sexy outfits, has caught the eye of Blackwell for all the wrong reasons.
He says, "In barely-there bombs, she's a taste-free pain. Let's crown her
the Tacky Temptress of Wisteria Lane." Lindsay Lohan landed in second
place on the list, with Blackwell deeming her "over-hyped and
under-dressed", while sisters Jessica Simpson and Ashlee Simpson tied for
third place. The "fabulous fashion independents" who won praise from
Blackwell for 2004 are Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman, Barbara Walters,
Kate Winslet, Annette Bening, Oprah Winfrey, Scarlett Johansson, Gwen
Stefani, Jennifer Garner and Sheridan's Desperate Housewives co- star Teri
Hatcher. Blackwell's previous worst-dressed star, hotel heiress Paris
Hilton, dropped to number five. The top 10 is as follows: Nicolette
Sheridan, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson and Ashlee Simpson, Courtney
Love, Paris Hilton, Serena Williams, Britney Spears, Paula Abdul, Meryl
Streep, Anna Nicole Smith.
Hilton and Richie Banned From School
12 January 2005
Socialites-turned-reality TV stars Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie have
been banned from a New Jersey school after announcing plans to film a
segment of their new show there. The high-living duo had hoped to film an
episode of The Simple Life at the JP Cleary Middle School in Minotola, but
governors aborted the project after being deluged with protests from
parents. Hilton and Richie were planning to work as substitute teachers at
the school - and be filmed trying to keep order. One angry parent says,
"Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie's reputation leaves a lot to be desired.
What if one of them were to let slip an obscenity. Many parents were left
puzzled when the idea was first raised."
Paris Hilton Missed Club Paris Opening
3 January 2005
Hotel heiress Paris Hilton missed out on the opening ceremony of her
Florida nightspot Club Paris, after turning up six hours late. The Simple
Life reality TV star had previously been holidaying in Switzerland's Alps
and blames late-running planes for holding her back from the launch of her
$3 million Orlando, Florida, venue. Her sister Nicky Hilton was forced to
step in and cut the pink ribbon to open the club on Thursday. Paris
apologized when she turned up later that night, saying, "I was in the
Swiss Alps skiing and I got caught out at the airport with all the holiday
travel so I've been trying to fly for the past 24 hours. I'm so sorry I'm
late."
